St William of Perth Prayer Pilgrims
What are SWOP Prayer Pilgrims?
At St William of Perth, our Prayer Pilgrims play a vital role in nurturing the school’s spiritual and moral heart. This dedicated group of pupils helps to guide and strengthen the Catholic identity of the school, ensuring that Gospel values are lived out in everyday school life. Their mission supports our whole community in growing closer to God through prayer, reflection, and service.
A key part of their work is promoting Catholic Social Teaching (CST). The Prayer Pilgrims help ensure that the core principles—such as dignity of the human person, care for creation, solidarity, the common good, and the option for the poor and vulnerable—are clearly understood by all pupils. They help bring these values to life through assemblies, class reflections, charity initiatives, and wider school activities.
Working alongside staff, the Prayer Pilgrims also support the spiritual well-being of the whole school by helping to prepare liturgies, leading prayer opportunities, and encouraging others to take part in acts of faith. Their presence is felt not only within the school but also in the wider parish and community, where they help represent the values we aim to live by.
Through their leadership, enthusiasm, and commitment, the Prayer Pilgrims help ensure that St William of Perth remains a community rooted in faith, compassion and service.
Every class in our school has a Prayer Pilgrim; some classes have more than one. A Prayer Pilgrim is someone who will helps their class to pray and to learn about God. They also help in assembly by leading prayers and singing. These children try their best to be good role models and caring friends to everyone in our school community. Every term they meet with the Headteacher and/ or Deputy Headteacher for a “Gospel tea” and suggest ways to help their friends to pray and to understand Jesus better.
