SWOP PTA – Helping you, help our children...

Welcome to the St William of Perth Catholic Primary School PTA website. Our aim is to support the school with funding and manpower for those projects which fall outside of the budget. But it’s not just about fundraising and projects, sometimes it’s more about making an event fun for the children or giving them a special memory.

Here on our website you will find out:

  • how to become involved in the SWOP PTA
  • some of our previous projects and achievements
  • about our social and fundraising events
  • how the PTA is supporting SWOP with its future plans

FAQ

Who is a member of the PTA?

Every parent, guardian, teacher, member of staff or carer of a child at St William of Perth RC Primary School (SWOP) is automatically a member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

How does it work?

The PTA is run by a core of volunteers (the PTA committee) who regularly attend meetings and help to organise events such as the School Discos, Colour Run, Film Night, Mother's Day Shop  Quiz night and Inflatable Afternoon.  However everyone is free to contribute as little or as much as they like as infrequently or as often as they are able. Each event is either fundraising so we can make purchases to enrich the learning environment of our children or to support making a special memory or experience for them.

PTA Meetings

Meetings are held at least each half term. Everyone is invited to come along to any of the meetings whether it's simply to listen to what's going on, express an opinion, make a suggestion to run an event, volunteer to help or become a member of the committee. We also have smaller working groups consisting of volunteers who co-ordinate the fundraising activities.

Volunteering

If you feel you would like to get involved either by helping at an event, giving us a great idea or you have a skill that you think we could use, making cakes, graphic design, web site design, marketing or PR experience to name but a few then please get in touch. We are always happy to welcome new volunteers and appreciate all the help that we get.

Our Achievements

The PTA is here for you - the parents, guardians and teachers and all the children who attend St William of Perth Roman Catholic Primary School. Our main aim is to raise funds to purchase items that would otherwise fall outside the school's budget or to provide manpower and skills for school events and projects.

Some examples of projects previously supported are

  • Contributions to building improvements including our roof project
  • The wet playtime toy boxes
  • The football team tracksuits and socks
  • Class set of digital cameras
  • New Reading Scheme
  • The science pond
  • Audio visual system in the school hall
  • Sound system in the school hall
  • We always help the Easter bunny
  • Autograph books for the year six leavers
  • And much, much more

Please see our future projects section for our current plans. We also provide an informal social network for parents and run or support several social and fundraising events throughout the school year.

Fundraising Intiatives

OUR CURRENT FUNDRAISING EVENTS

FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES

Below is a list of some of the fundraising initiatives the PTA use to raise money for SWOP. If you have any fundraising ideas please contact us via the school office.

Corporate Fundraising Matching

Please check with your employer to see if they run a Corporate Fundraising Matching scheme. This means they will match whatever money you raise for our registered charity, usually up to a maximum value.

Some events we host

Blue Bag Collection

Twice a year we collect good quality clothes, accessories and soft toys in blue bags to be sold overseas. We are paid 60 pence per kilo for the donations and this always raises More than £100

Christmas Craft Stall

When there is a Christmas Bazaar we have held a Christmas Crafting Stall to entertain the children. Although we don’t raise much money, the children loved all the crafts and being able to take something they have made home!

Pantomime Tuck Shop

We support the school each year by providing a tuck shop and people to sell tickets on the day

Children’s Disco

A Highlight of the year, the children love the infant and junior discos

Mother’s and Father’s Day Shops

For the past four years we have run these shops so that the children can surprise their parents on their special days. All the items are £2 or less and giftwrapped.

Summer Fun Day

This is our main fundraising event of the year. All of the school and community get involved. There are stalls, displays, games and lots to eat!

Seasonal Raffles

With some amazing prizes.

How to Help

Attend a social or fundraising event

One thing we can say is that you will meet new people and leave the event having made new friends.

Support fundraising initiatives

Do you have a practical skill? Could you spare some time to do some photocopying or do you have printing, marketing, or technical skills that we could use? Can you make cakes, biscuits or buns? Are you any good at woodwork or do you shop on-line? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then you can help the PTA.  Send in some cakes for fun day or one of the social events, donate good quality clothes for the blue bag collection or even help with wrapping for the Mother and Father’s day shops.

Volunteer at PTA events

You could sell drinks or sweets or help make hotdogs at the Summer Fun Day or maybe help organise an event. Why not offer to run a stall, sell raffle tickets or donate a raffle prize? Can you write letters to different organisations and ask for donations? Whatever it is, every little counts and is appreciated.

Ask your Employer

Why not see if your employer would be willing to donate a prize for the raffles and auctions we run throughout the year or can help by donating some office supplies or even doing some photocopying for us. Many employers offer a Charity matching programme or will donate to an individual nominated charity; the employee normally has to help directly with an event. The PTA is a registered charity (Charity Registration Number 1121459).

Join in with School Projects

There are a number of projects where we need all the help we can get. In the past a few mums have helped to audit the school library so that all the books could be loaded onto the new library system. Another all hands on deck was where a group of parents gathered one sunny October afternoon to pick apples and clear the bad apples from the field. We need gardeners to maintain the pond area and various skills for our amazing Funday.

Provide new ideas

If you have any new ideas for raising funds or just for getting together and having a good time then please let us know. We are always on the lookout for new things to try. Even better if you are able to run the event we can help you.
